Every dog needs training, no matter what kind. The dog breed , or what breed mix, is irrelevant. Size and age also play no role in dog training. Even the origin is not decisive.
But why is it so important to train your dog?

Upbringing influences the behavior and development of our dogs.
We all want the perfect dog. It should always get along well with other dogs. It should behave well towards other people and not jump up on them. It should be indifferent to children and not react inappropriately. And when guests are over, the dog is absolutely forbidden on the couch. Otherwise, though, it's fine, because we love having our beloved four-legged friend around.
Yes, exactly, but all of that is training, and consequently, all of that is a learning process. You have to teach your dog how "dogs behave." But that's relative. More accurately, you have to teach your dog what we expect from him. How else is he supposed to know? The responsibility for a well-behaved dog lies with the owner. Not with the trainer, not with the breeder, not with the foster home, but with the owner. And yes, it's work. But isn't it fun to "work" with your dog? Spending time with your dog is wonderful, isn't it?
"We go to dog school once a week, where the trainers train my dog."
No, dog trainers at dog schools certainly don't do that. At a dog school, you can take various courses and learn dog sports together. But training happens in your own everyday life; after all, we want a dog that behaves according to our expectations.
"Mine is from a breeder who has already trained him well."
No, even from a breeder you don't get a ready-made, perfect "dog package"! Far from it. With a lot of luck, the puppy will already be well-socialized if it comes from a good breeder. But training then takes place in its new forever home. And above all, with its future caregivers. That makes perfect sense.
"Mine is from an animal shelter and has had many bad experiences. However, he has blossomed and become well-behaved in his foster home over the last few months."
No, here too, training happens in the new home. A rescue dog has often already had many bad experiences. Therefore, he more than deserves to finally settle down and receive proper training. His past is now behind him, so he "deserves" to be trained calmly. This will help him cope better with many situations.
Training is important because it solidifies and strengthens your dog's character. When you teach your dog to follow certain rules, perform specific rituals, and refrain from certain reactions, you influence his mental development. This gives him security and he will become a... to develop into your confident partner. You will become a great team with a strong bond! Your daily life and living together will be uncomplicated and harmonious.
In Part 2 of dog training In this article, we will address the topic “Why dog training doesn't ask about breed, size, weight and age”.
