With its flat snout, the pug, like the Boston Terrier and the French Bulldog , among the Dog breeds with a flat muzzle . The Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) categorizes the Pug in FCI Group 9, which includes a total of 26 companion and toy dogs. It is considered an aristocratic dog, as it was kept by monarchs in bygone eras as an "imperial dog."

Character traits and personality characteristics of the pug

He is considered an affectionate, loyal companion who will never leave your side. Dignity, charm, intelligence, and cheerfulness characterize this cheerful fellow. He is intelligent but also incredibly stubborn, so loving yet consistent training is very important. All dogs need training and should receive the Basic signals know them and be able to follow them.

Despite its seemingly stocky build, the pug loves exercise. While not exactly athletic, it enjoys water games, fetch, and balancing activities. Due to their short/flat muzzles, pugs often suffer from shortness of breath and, consequently, brachycephalic syndrome. Their narrowed nostrils make it harder for them to breathe than other dog breeds. Especially in summer, they not only have trouble breathing but can also easily overheat in the high temperatures. Other breed-specific diseases of the pug include hip dysplasia, patellar luxation (dislocation of the kneecap), and demodicosis, a skin disease caused by mites.
